🎹 Note Basics

Notes on a piano are made up of *natural* notes (like C, D, E) and *sharps* (like C♯, D♯).

The natural notes are shown as white keys, and the sharps are the black keys between them.

The distance between one key and the next (white or black) is called a semitone. For example, from C to C♯ is one semitone, and C♯ to D is another.

🔢 Octaves

Each note is also part of an octave, which tells you how high or low the note sounds.

For example, C3 is a low C, and D#4 is a higher D-sharp. The number after the note is the octave.

🧠 Tip

Start by listening carefully to the note, then try narrowing it down by octave before guessing the exact key.
